Summer

Summer on the Hillingdon Ranch

“Under the unrelenting pressure of the heat and the wind, the blossoms fade and die, and the bright baby greens of spring deepen into the older, dark greens of summer. With scarce rain, lushness gives way to maturity; foliage becomes tougher, more fibrous, and generally less palatable for livestock and wildlife alike. Of course, spring’s babies mature, too. Time moves quickly in nature and by now, the knobby-kneed newborns have grown into the animal kingdom’s teenagers, learning their final lessons at their mothers’ sides, asserting their independence, and preparing for life on their own.”
